Hello Swing Dancers, We've had a great start to the year with lots of new students in beginners' class and people really giving it their all in the solo Charleston class. Thanks for your energy![]() We've added demonstration videos to the Zoot Swing website. If you or your friends want to see the basics of all the steps we teach in our beginners' class, plus blues and balboa demonstrations, check it out here. Once you know these moves you can get out there on the social dance floor and have a great night. Also, read below for finalised details of our workshops coming up in February. 1. Bongo Club, Holyrood Road, EH8 8BA The schedule looks like this: Weeks 1 & 2 -
Beginner Side by Side Charleston followed by Beginner Plus Charleston Solo Charleston class: 9:30pm. This class will run every Tuesday night in January and will teach the basic solo Charleston plus other moves you can throw into the mix and bust out on the dance floor. This class will be of a general level, suitable for beginners and more experienced dancers. Flat, slippery shoes recommended and be prepared to get warm it can be quite a workout! Price: £5 (£4
concession) for one class, and £1 off subsequent classes in one night. 2.
Soul Survivor: Live Blues Night - 1st February 3. Live Swing Band and
Charleston Competition - Sunday 22nd February This will also be a chance for you to check out the Caledonian Swing Cats performing in Edinburgh. And if you want more than live swinging tunes and dancing acts, you too can also take part in the night with Edinburgh's first 20s Charleston competition. What's that you ask? Just take a look at some of the pros in America the link here. Don't be scared though, these guys are the professionals, we just wanna have some fun! The competition will run in the same format as the one in the link and you get the chance to learn some solo Charleston moves and find your Charleston dancing feet at our 9:30pm classes in January. Taking part in the competition will cost just £2 and again all money will go to Oxfam. For more info on the competition have a look at our website. Doors: 7:00pm, 7:30pm

Workshops in Edinburgh - 7th February Ben and Helen will present a series of workshops to get you thinking about some aspects of the dance not covered in detail in weekly classes. Workshops are a great way to take an element of your dancing and really focus on it for an hour. Register for the workshops via the website here. The workshops will take place at the RAF Club, 11 Hillside Crescent, EH7 5EA Musicality: Jazz and swing music have many different sounds and styles - that's why we love it! In this workshop we'll explore dancing to the different aspects of swing-danceable music. Dips and Spins: In this workshop we'll show you the tips and techniques to get you spinning like a top. Not just the gals either! We'll also teach you fellas a move or two that can have you spinning and looking as great as the ladies. And before you get too dizzy we'll be teaching some easy dips to add some flair at the end of your dance... or even in the middle. Balboa Basics: This is another great dance in the swing dance family, utilising small steps to fast music. This dance was designed for fast dancing in small spaces and is easy dance all night. Shoe Swing Cabaret Night - 21st January Zoot Swing's Caledonian Swing Cats and Helen and Ben will be performing at the Shoe Swing Cabaret night on 21st January. The Shoe Swing cabaret is always a fun night with acts intespersed between the social dancing. Dancing from 9pm at The Counting House, West Nicholson Street, EH8 9DD, £2 entry. 6. Charity Ceilidh - 24th January The Auld Reekie Sawbones Ceilidh Band is playing a charity ceilidh on 24th January at the King's Hall, Newington, kick off at 7.30.
